Video sizes for YouTube, Shorts, TikTok and Reels

Every platform has a frame it wants. The editor exports each one at full HD and keeps your captions and text inside the part of the frame that stays visible.

A regular YouTube video is 16:9, and 1920×1080 is its full-HD size. YouTube Shorts, TikTok and Instagram Reels are vertical 9:16, and 1080×1920 is the size to export. The editor makes all of these, plus square 1:1 and portrait 4:5, and can make a copy of any video in another shape.

Resize a video into another shape

Ask the chat for "a vertical copy for TikTok" and our AI makes a copy of the video in 9:16 and opens it in the editor. The footage is re-framed to fill the new frame, and every caption, text and graphic is moved inside the new format's safe area.

The original stays as it was, so a YouTube video and its Shorts cut can live side by side.

Make a 9:16 copy of this for Shorts.
Done. Here's what changed:
  • Made a vertical 1080×1920 copy
  • Moved the captions and the lower third into the vertical safe area
  • Opened the copy in the editor

Safe areas on vertical video

On a vertical video the apps lay their buttons, the account name and the caption over the bottom and right of the frame. The editor keeps captions and text out of the top 220 pixels, the bottom 360, the left 60 and the right 150 of a 1080×1920 frame, so nothing important hides under a like button.

What the file is

Exports are MP4 files with H.264 video and AAC audio, which is the container YouTube recommends and every app accepts. Script videos render at 1080p, 30 frames a second.

Questions

What size is a YouTube video?

16:9. The full-HD size is 1920×1080; YouTube also accepts 4K (3840×2160), 1440p, 720p and 480p at the same shape.

What size is a YouTube Short?

Vertical 9:16 at 1080×1920, or square. Shorts can be up to 3 minutes long for uploads since October 15, 2024.

What size is a TikTok video?

1080×1920, vertical 9:16. The same file works for Reels and Shorts.

Yes. Ask the chat for a 9:16 copy and our AI makes one, re-framed, with the captions and text moved into the vertical safe area.

Do I need a plan to export?

Exporting needs a paid plan: Pro is $20 a month, Studio $50 and Max $100.
